Parks and Recreation Returns For Third Season Tonight; Watch or Be Sorry

“It ends today, Pikitis. It ends…today.”

Sure, Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) of Parks and Recreation may have been referring to the end of Halloween pranks, but today, her iconic words apply to the end of Parks and Recreation’s hiatus.

It has been eight long months since Parks and Recreation has been on television, and tonight, it finally returns with its third season, in an episode titled “Go Big or Go Home.”

When we last visited Pawnee, Indiana, two state auditors (Rob Lowe and Adam Scott) told Leslie that her worst nightmare was coming true: the government was shutting down due to a budget crisis.

Yet, the government was not the only one facing a crisis.

After hurting his arm in a motorcycle accident, Andy found himself in an unexpected love triangle when April, and his ex, Ann, separately kissed him at the hospital.  April was not too thrilled upon finding out that Ann tried to make a move on Andy, even though Andy was no longer attracted to Ann. So, April left Andy at the hospital with only a Jell-O rainbow to keep him company.

Meanwhile, Pawnee’s resident playboy and DJ Roomba inventor, Tom, had found a new love interest of his own (and, no, it was not Trish aka. Miss Pawnee.)

But, who knows how long Tom’s girlfriend will stick around because Tom was visibly upset when he found out his former wife was sleeping with his boss, Ron.

As for Ron, we last saw him in his Tiger Woods’ attire—meaning that he was in pretty good spirits. Not only was he happy because the government had shut down, but he had also just slept with Tom’s ex-wife.

Whew, caught up to speed?

While it might sound as though Parks and Recreation is in the running to become the next One Tree Hill, it is much better than that.

Last season, I grew to love Parks and Recreation almost as much as Ron loves meat.

The first season of Parks and Recreation was mediocre at best, but the show found its voice during season two and became a must-watch comedy

Whereas Leslie was gratingly annoying in season one, she became an imperfect yet endearing, confident leader in season two—someone worthy of being a protagonist.

Likewise, all of the Parks and Recreation characters have evolved from being the caricatures they were in season one. They, like Leslie, have become charmingly imperfect, relatable and funny.

I cannot wait to see where season three takes these characters because, even though I cannot imagine what they will be up to, I know it will be hilarious.

Are you as excited as I am for the return of Parks and Recreation? If you have already seen the premiere, what did you think of it? Do you think Freddy Spaghetti or Greg Pikitis will ever return? Answer in the comments section below, and do not forget to watch Parks and Recreation at 9:30 p.m. EST on NBC!
